Your Artroom was designed by the South African artist Sane in cooperation with Viva con Agua. In her artwork, Sane shows the WASH Hero in a conversation with a girl from Bulungula in South Africa.
Sane is spreading the message that water is a human right to girls from more rural regions in South Africa. Periods are still a taboo subject in many regions, sanitary facilities are very rare and in some South African schools the problem is not given adequate attention due to the state of some toilets and lack of access to water. This denies girls their right to proper hygiene during their periods. This is a human rights issue that needs to be addressed.
Saane's art is thus about normalising the right to the natural course of periods and the right to menstrual hygiene for girls, wherever they are in the world. Period.
